The Vancouver office advises Canadian and international corporations who often - but not necessarily - have some connection to the West Coast on a broad range of business issues including corporate and commercial matters, securities, financial services, infrastructure, real estate, tax, mining, forestry and natural resources, government, environmental, and labour and employment. The office also boasts a strong litigation and arbitration practice, with particular emphasis on corporate and commercial matters, product liability, class actions and insolvency.

Does your firm offer a rotation? If so, what does it look like for summer students and articling students?

Our summer articled students are asked if they would prefer to sit on a litigation or corporate floor, but they are open to work with any group in the Firm during their summer articles.  We encourage students to seek out the projects that they are most interested in doing, and to get as much variety and exposure as possible. We believe this allows them to have a rich and well-rounded summer student experience.  Our articling program rotates students to different floors as part of our three rotation system. This approach ensures that our students obtain broad exposure to the principal areas of our practice under the guidance and supervision of experienced lawyers and also gives students the ability to tailor their articles to suit their individual interests.

What is one piece of advice you would give a lawyer early in their career?

Be enthusiastic; be hungry to learn.  If people can see that you are prepared to work hard to be successful they will give you the opportunities and support you need to get there.  It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.
